    Konqueror Del.icio.us Plugin

    Wednesday, April 8. 2009

Its been a while since I posted about my progress with Kobby, but the editor is definately making headway.  I actually managed to get basic editing working again, but ill blog about this another time when I feel the time is appropriate.

Like many people, I am a fan of del.icio.us, but lately I have also started using Konqueror as my web browser of choice.  Immediately after making this switch I noticed the lack of a del.icio.us  plugin similar to Firefox's, which has caused my bookmaring rates to take a nosedive.  Now, after a few days work, all is back to normal and I can bookmark sites for del.icio.us  from inside Konqueror using the new (and barely tested) konqueror del.icio.us  plugin.  Its very simple at the moment (allows only for adding bookmarks), but if youre at all like me this is a huge help.

      Have you read this thread?
      http://lists.kde.org/?l=kfm-devel&m=123317823116177&w=2

It'd be nice to see one of these implementations in konq-plugins package.

This plugin seems superior than a bookmarklet thingy. I work with the Firefox addon regularly and it is by far more easier to use.

This plugin has the potential to be like the Firefox addon. The only thing I miss is the sidebar, which I hope this will be implemented in the future.

I havent heard of bookmarklets, but the link describing them makes them seem not much more useful than normal bookmarks?

Not a delicio user myself but am interested in writing some basic plugins for konq in KDE4, but have been unable to find any decent references or how-to's online, most are KDE3 or KDE2(!)

      Do you have any pointers?

      Thanks - Lindsay

I ran into the exact same problem. I learned how to make the plugin by checking out the source for the plugins in extragear/base/konq-plugins.

This plugin might not be a bad example either. All you really need to know is the build system (which you can mostly copy), how to initialize the plugin/factory (which you can find in kdeliciousplugin.cpp), and that you can typecast the passed parent to a KHTMLPart.

Thanks Gregory, I'll check both sets of source out.

There are already at least 2 plugins for using del.icio.us in Konqueror:

      konqil.icio.us (http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/konqil.icio.us?content=18909)
      KDelicious(http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/KDelicious?content=72038).

I know this because I wrote the former ;-). Mine does not yet support KDE 4.x but I have some commits to make that fixes that.

I actually tried your plugin before creating this, but the lack of KDE4 support is a big hamper. I got it to load with some minor modifications, but I then decided that a plugin might be worthwhile as opposed to a service menu.
