Scratch that, I didn't realize the recent open sourcing of Ether Pad. Out of the box infinote (kobby's collaborative protocol) wont work, but I would like to look into making the two systems work together.

If Ether Pad supports only plaintext editing this should technically be possible, otherwise it will likely require a non-standard plugin to work with libinfinity.

I don't think this would be possible, given that Etherpad is a for-profit product their protocol likely is not open.

KDE promo is currently starting to use a etherpad installation - would it, technically, be possible to link that one day to Kobby? If so, that'd be awesome

Yeah that was exactly my point - the auto-detection feature. Sorry maybe I should have a more closer look at avahi, or check if the kobby version coming with kubuntu has a server included. Thanks for your reply and a really great piece of software. Looking at some major UI improvements is on my list of things to do once I get a 1.0 out the door, and i'm sure investigating Gobby's UI will be part of this process. Even so, i'm not sure how you can make creating connections much more simple than clicking create connection -> enter hostname / port.

Kobby also supports avahi, meaning if a server has been compiled with, and is running in a way that supports it, Kobby can auto-detect it.

Feel free to drop UI improvements / other ideas in the mailing list or bug tracker, they are always appreciated!

Sounds great. Do you have any plans to ease the connection process? In gobby it's dead simple to create a new connection without any manual interaction. Would be really great to have the same easiness in kobby.
Access control is planned for the 0.5 cycle of libinfinity. I hope to get 0.4 out of the door still this year and then get hands on this.

I just added a ticket to keep user access/control on the to do list. In the devel branch you should be able to see who is currently joined to a document, this just wasnt enabled in Beta 3.

I pulled as much code as possible into a supporting library (libqinfinity) when making the editor, so integrating infinote into a katepart should be very doable.

Dont hesitate to ping on kobby@googlegroups.com with any info on how the testing is going - its always helpful!
